In today’s changing world people need
easier and cheaper modes of transportation. These transportation facilities may
include Railways, Buses, Flights, Rental Cars, Metros, Ships and many others.
These all facilities are available to each and every normal person. In case of
absence of these facilities the transportation would have been very hard and
expensive. Everything from Carpooling to travelling in ships can be included
under Shared mobility.
In India alone, there is 67,956 km of tracks of railways which makes
Indian railways the 4th Biggest Railways in the world. Railways are
very helpful for poor people as they provide them cheap mode of transportation.
The passenger traffic in the railway sector amounted to over eight billion across India
in fiscal year 2020. Passenger rail traffic from India's suburbs was much
higher than the non-suburban rail traffic. Overall, the railway network
transported over 22 million passengers every day.
This
not only provides a cheaper and easier mode of transportation but also saves
environment. Whenever a person decides to use any public transport, it could be
bus, train, metro or even carpooling at the same time he/she contributes to
environment. If it weren’t for the public transport then the number of bikes
and mopeds on the roads will increase not by percentage but by times and to
make things worse private transporters would be way expensive for poor to
afford. This is a great step towards decreasing Pollution all over the globe.
Some
impacts of shared mobility include
enhanced transportation accessibility as well as reduced driving and decreased
personal vehicle ownership. These programs
often yield a variety of environmental, social, and transportation system
benefits. More people that share vehicles, and take different modes of
transport e.g. bikes, buses, will equal less CO2 emissions. This has a roll-on
effect of less damage done to our roads, and more people connecting to
alternative modes of transport.
Shared
Mobility has proven to be an effective form of transportation, not only it
covers maximum number of travelers but also proves to be a way to boost the
economy. When people travel, they tend to do expenditure at public
transportation or for their personal use, either way they do spend money and
thus boosting the area’s economy if people won’t spend or invest their money
then it would have negative impacts on the economy. In other words, shared
mobility motivates public to travel and in doing so to spend and this
expenditure helps to boost the economy.
